 Nowadays fishing has different values and it started to represent, besides a way of subsistence, an important alternative to leisure activities. Methods and techniques had been developed with intention to understand better the behaviour of the fish, as well as to develop the leisure activity.
The rivers of the Amazon shelter the biggest diversity of species of sport fish of the planet. Here we can find already catalogued about 3.000 different species. This extraordinary aquatic biodiversity has created the richest freshwater sport fishery. The most known species are the Tucunaré, Pirarucu, Pacu, Traíra, Bicuda, Tambaqui and Piranha among others. In the region of Santarém one of the biggest attractions is, without a doubt, the fishing of tucunaré (peacock bass). The list of Amazonian freshwater fish is as extensive and exotic as the land itself. |

NATIONAL FOREST OF TAPAJÓS (FLONA)
We will leave Santarém towards Flona of the Tapajós in an air-conditioned vehicle. 
We will arrive in the Community of Jamaraquá to begin a marvellous track inside the National Forest of the Tapajós, where we will be able to observe the exuberant flora and fauna of the Amazon forest, accompanied by the local guide. (Approximately duration of 2h)
Then we will return to the community for a simple, but delicious lunch at home of one of the locals.
Soon after lunch, relax in a canoe stroll up to exuberant narrow riverbank full of wildlife.
At the end, return to the community to visit the craft centre where it is possible to watch the production of natural accessories with products like seeds and latex. On the way out of the Flona, there will be a brief stop at the Community of Maguary to visit their craft centre, where they manufacture bags and small animals from pure latex.
At last, on our return to Santarém we will pass through Belterra, an unique American city in the Amazon forest.
